A family glory for centuries
Romain Ducasse was born in 1927 the northeast of Bordeaux. He dreamed to become an excellent vigneron like his parents. His father Paul Ducasse, man of foresight who managed the family vineyard, has purchased a new plot of land in 1925 to experiment grape varieties and new methods of making better wines. Under the influence of his parents, Romain soaked in the sea of knowledge; he admired them to harvest vines and to blend such quality wines.
Wine market was impacted during World War II, but this did not influence Ducasse family's devotion to wines. Instead, in the late 1940's, they had many outstanding vintages. At that time, Young Romain helped his father, working with family members in the vineyards. As it can be seen, the touch of vines attached him with a sense of vinification.
Romain received a piece of jewellery (French: Bijou) from his mother, it was a delicate necklace with a butterfly (French: papillon) pendant. This precious antique was passed from generations to generations, still shivering in the sunshine like a real elf. The butterfly signified the belief, the hope and the luck. Just as Romain' mother said "Mon bijou, le papillon du bonheur", Romain luckly married Marie Pulliat in 1950, presenting the butterfly style jewellery to her on the marriage ceremony. Marie was a talented young œnologue who integrated her version for wine with Ducasse family. She was a typical French woman, elegant, romantic, sharing sweet moments with Romain, toasting a glass of fine for her love.
With the great efforts of Romain Ducasse and Marie Pulliat, they brought in a new look for the Ducasse vineyard. Firstly, they reinvested wine-making house as well as storage place, and then renovated the cave with equipments for quality control. Besides, they expanded their business to south France, specializing in single grape varieties.
The butterfly necklace always followed Marie, reminding her and Romain the luck of realising dreams together. After 5 years, the industrious Ducasse couple accumulated some capitals and experiences. They decided to blend their cuvee with resources at hand. For choosing the name, Romain and Marie happened to pronounce the same: Mon bijou! They designed a butterfly on the labels as to symbolize the Ducasse tradition, the luck of the family.
The wine Mon bijou, characterized as remarkable concentration of rich fruits, has revealed the very French wine taste: balanced, attractive and classic! It is a wine soaring up with histories, flying delightfully like the butterfly.

The major reason for the success of winemaking in the Bordeaux region is the excellent
environment for growing vines. The geological foundation of the region is limestone, leading to a soil structure that is heavy in calcium. The Gironde estuary dominates the regions along with its tributaries, the Garonne and the Dordogne rivers, and together irrigates the land
and provides an Atlantic Climate, also known as an oceanic climate, for the region.
The soil of Bordeaux is composed of gravel, sandy stone, and clay. The region's best vineyards are located on the well drained gravel soils that are frequently found near the Gironde River.
Bordeaux appellation wines may be produced anywhere in the Bordeaux vineyard. These wines, which represent over 50% of Bordeaux's production, embody the much-appreciated Bordeaux style of harmonious elegance and aromatic complexity.
